Namaqualand in bloom

It is the big pictures that are so stunning.

The flowers come out in their millions and they look at the sun. So you have to travel west in the morning and east in the evening ortherwise you just see their backs.

Here are just a few of the bigger pictures I took. In the main it the Felicias and the Osteoseprmums that create the big tracts of colour

Namaqualand

Kamieskroon is the little town at the centre of it all. A short distance away is the Namaqualand National Park but it is has no accommodation.

All around are farm guesthouses, many of which offer tours led by knowledgable people. The problem is that the blooming period is very short and occurs at different times in different years around the end of August/early September. The gardening fraternity in South Africa always know when it's happening and tours are hasily arranged.
